Careers DVD: Make your mark on the world: careers in Geography, Geology and Environmental Science
Students today want to know that tertiary study will lead to rewarding careers. In December 2008 the School of Environment launched a DVD for teachers, parents and students about careers in Geography, Geology and Environmental Science.
Make your mark on the world: careers in Geography, Geology and Environmental Science provides teachers, students and parents with an insight into the type of career opportunities that lie ahead for students who study Geography, Geology and Environmental Science at The University of Auckland. It also shows how knowledge gained from studying these subjects can be applied in the workplace.
We follow twelve graduates from the School of Environment to find out what they do now. We go out to their places of work and visit many of their "projects" to gain a real feel for the type of work they do. They show us that studying Geography, Geology or Environmental Science can lead to a wide range of exciting, challenging and rewarding careers, in environmental management, private consultancy, the public sector and the corporate world.
The graduates in our DVD, who are making their mark on the world are:

Geology CD: rocks and minerals
New Zealand is one of the most fascinating and dynamic geological environments in the world. Auckland is a city of volcanoes situated on the Waitemata Harbour, a drowned river valley. Visiting its beaches and volcanos can be like unravelling its history if you can recognise rocks and minerals and geological formations.
This CD contains a website which provides background to the development of Auckland's geological features and assistance in learning how to recognise minerals and rocks. It provides information on the identification of rocks and minerals utilising photography and object movies of specimens from Geology at The University of Auckland. The website contains numerous photos, videos and resources (You will need QuickTime Player to view VR objects and videos).
