School of Environment

Vehicles and Craft

School of Environment staff and 4WD on a beach erosion survey.

Much of the research and teaching in the School is field intensive therefore we are equipped with a versatile and practical fleet of vehicles that cater for most of our transport requirements.

School of Environment vehicles are available for use by University of Auckland staff and students. Some conditions of use exist;

All the School vehicles have automatic transmissions.  The School has 2x 4-wheel drive double-cab utes (Toyota Hilux), a 7-seater people mover (Toyota Highlander) and a cargo van (Toyota Hiace) which are available for postgraduate students to use for their field research. To access these, you must:

  • Gain approval from your supervisor
  • Undertake and pass a driving assessment (1 hour) organised through the Technical Manager
  • Register as a vehicle user with the School by reading the School’s vehicle guideline and completing a Driver Agreement Form
  • Mileage will be charged to your research allocation at a rate of $60/day + 10c/km.

Further information and forms can be found on the vehicle section of the ENV Health and Safety website.

Vehicle bookings can be made here. The first time you login you will be required to upload your signed Driver Agreement form and a copy of your licence.
